Our Story
David Lee is a native Texan who spent more than twenty years writing songs in Nashville for major publishers, with many of his songs recorded by country music artists. He now resides in Spring Branch, Texas, where he continues to write, perform, and mentor up‑and‑coming Texas artists.
On May 7, 2023, while attending a songwriter festival in Key West, David was involved in a traumatic accident. He was riding a scooter from one gig to the next when a car pulled out in front of him. To avoid a collision, he laid the scooter down at roughly 25 mph, unknowingly breaking six ribs in the process. Key West paramedics arrived within minutes and transported him to the emergency room, where he was then care‑flighted to Miami for major surgery. Fortunately, a newly developed procedure was available that stabilized his rib cage by plating four of his ribs. David spent six days in the ICU, and the experience proved to be both life‑changing and eye‑opening.
Without the financial support of his family, friends, fans, and the Nashville songwriter community, David and his family would have faced severe financial hardship. As the primary breadwinner, he was unable to work for several months, and he was deeply humbled by the outpouring of love and support.
Once he began to recover, David and his family established the Texas Songwriter Relief Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to provide financial assistance to professional Texas singer‑songwriters who perform full‑time and rely on their craft to make a living. The fund helps with needs such as vehicle repair, towing, temporary living expenses during recovery, equipment replacement or repair, and other unforeseen hardships.
A committee was also formed to evaluate requests and ensure that all assistance is provided according to fair and reasonable criteria.

The mission of TXSRF is to keep the artist on the road. The Texas Songwriters Relief Fund offers financial assistance to full time professional singer songwriters who need support with vehicle repair, towing, equipment replacement due to an instrument being stolen or in a fire, equipment repair and/or other unforeseen circumstances.
